What Is a Mini Sheepadoodle?

A Mini Sheepadoodle is a designer mix breed that’s a cross between Poodles and Old English Sheepdogs. Mini Sheepadoodles are family-friendly pets with a relaxed but playful disposition.

Mini Sheepadoodles are typically black and white, and they have non-shed coats, making them hypoallergenic dogs. Whether you have family members with allergies or simply prefer breeds that don’t shed, they’re an excellent fit.

Mini Sheepadoodles do require regular grooming due to their non-shed coats. Typically, this involves brushing and occasional bathing, ensuring their coat and skin are in the best possible shape and any loose hairs are cleaned up.

History of the Mini Sheepadoodle

Sheepadoodles were originally developed by the US Army as military dogs during the 1960s. The goal was to breed puppies with the bravery of Old English Sheepdogs and the intelligence of Poodles. The US Army believed they would get a high-quality working breed, but the resulting good-natured, carefree, and loving nature of the Sheepadoodles made them ill-suited for the desired work, so the military ended their use.

While Sheepadoodles weren’t suited for the military, the result was a wonderful family pet. During the 1980s, increased interest in the hypoallergenic Poodle drove people to appreciate mixed breeds like the Sheepadoodle. By the early 200s, the Sheepadoodles popularity rose along with other Doodles, such as the Goldendoodle and the Labradoodle.

While Standard Sheepadoodles are usually larger than other Doodles, Mini Sheepadoodles are smaller. Instead of crossing Old English Sheepdogs with Standard Poodles, Mini Sheepadoodles are a cross between Miniature Poodles and Old English Sheepdogs, resulting in a smaller Doodle with the same characteristics as their larger counterparts.

Mini Sheepadoodle Puppy Frequently Asked Questions

Do Mini Sheepadoodles Shed?

Mini Sheepadoodles are a no-shed or low-shed breed, making them allergy-friendly. Whether they’re no-shed or low-shed depends on the coat type, which varies depending on the traits the Mini Sheepadoodle acquires from its parents. Curly-coated Mini Sheepadoodles shed less than wavy-coated Mini Sheepadoodle. Straight-coat Mini Sheepadoodles with double coats typically shed the most, though they still usually fall in the low-shed category.

But all Mini Sheepadoodles do still require proper grooming to keep their coats and skin in the best possible shape. Even low-shed breeds will lose some hairs are part of the growth cycle, so you need to brush your Mini Sheepadoodle several times a week to remove loose hair and prevent tangling and matting.

Bathing and hair trimming can reduce the odds of shedding across all coat types. Proper nutrition and care can also lower the odds of shedding.

Additionally, specific generations have higher percentages of Poodle genes. For example, F1b and F1bb have higher percentages of Poodle genetics, so they are better options for those with severe allergies, as they’re even less likely to shed.

What Are Mini Sheepadoodles Like?

Our Mini Sheepadoodle puppies for sale are known for their outgoing, playful, and relaxed personalities. They’re also easily trainable, energetic, and eager to please. As a result, they’re excellent choices for active families who enjoy play and regular exercise, giving their Mini Sheepadoodle a place to burn off energy while spending time with its pack.

Are Mini Sheepadoodles Hypoallergenic?

Mini Sheepadoodles are generally hypoallergenic since they’re a no- to low-shed breed. When there’s less shedding, fewer allergens are introduced into the household, making them allergy-friendly.

Extra steps like regular brushing, bathing, and other grooming reduce allergens even more, making the Mini Sheepadoodle an excellent option for households with members who have allergies.

Additionally, Mini Sheepadoodles with higher percentages of Poodle genes are typically more hypoallergenic. As a result, households with people who have severe allergies may benefit more from specific generations, so they may want to focus on F1b or F1bb Mini Sheepadoodle puppies for sale over the other options.

What Are the Mini Sheepadoodle Colors?

While other Doodles come in a wide array of colors, Mini Sheepadoodles usually fall into four categories. They are typically:

  • Black and White
  • Parti – 50 % white with patches of other colors, typically black or grey
  • Blue Merle – mottled fur with blue fur colorations and eyes
  • Red and White – rare

Generally, we don’t offer red and white Mini Sheepadoodles. If you’re looking for red coloring and a no- or low-shed breed, check out our Goldendoodle or Irish Doodle puppies.
